Teresa Beach-Shelow, President, Superior Joining Technologies
Manufacturing doesn’t have to be a male-dominated world, and Teresa Beach-Shelow is proof. The majority owner of Superior Joining Technologies, in Rockford, entered the industry 20 years ago with her husband and business partner, Thom Shelow, a career welder who started the business in the family garage.
WOTM hosted our Annual Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction this past March. New date, new venue, HUGE SUCESS!!!
WOTM hosted our annual fundraiser at Prairie Street Brewhouse in March.. It was a huge sucess thanks to our committee chair Tiffany Phillips (WREX) and her committee with all their hard work and dedication. Special thanks to Kristin Crowley-WREX, our guest speaker at this event. Thank you to all the companies and individuals that donated to the raffle and silent auction. This event raised over $8,000 that has been put into our scholarship account. The proceeds will award 2018 scholarships to students pursuing an education or technical training in STEM or manufacuring field. WOTM will also invest money back into the community by sponsoring local FIRST FRC teams (Winnovation, Stateline Robotics, Rockford Robotics, Metal Heads, and Flaming Monkeys) and R2OC robotics competition.
On behalf of everyone at Discovery Center, we thank you and WOTM for your participation with Discover Engineering last Saturday. We truly appreciate the time you gave to help interest kids about engineering.
Thank you for the school supply donations at the December 2016 Membership Appreciation Dinner
'Twas the week before finals and all through the school not a supply could be found, not even a spool (of string). The backpacks were hung in the lockers with care in hopes that just someone would be aware. When what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a caring group of full of cheer! Buckets and bags filled with all kinds of things that will help our students learn until spring. The teachers' eyes - how they twinkled! Their smiles - how they shined! Exclamations of joy - what a blissful state of mind! The best holiday gift EVER and you are the reason! Many thanks to you all and to all a joyful season.
WOTM awarded four of the founding members with lifetime membership emeritus awards.
In 2002 it became apparent that local support for manufacturing was very lacking. Local organizations had a national focus but a regional champion did not exist. Three dynamic women pooled their forces and resources to fund the startup of a regionally focused non-profit. They gathered a core of like-minded women in manufacturing to flesh out the details. One of the husband’s (business partners) insisted that ‘Women” be included in the title of this new organization because as he put it “women get it done!” As a result Women of Today’s Manufacturing was born.
Are you interested in helping raise money for scholarships? Would you like to network with other business professionals within manufacturing industries and business that service manufacturers? Request to join our board or one of our committees and help make an impact on students and manufacturing professionals in our community. Board members meet monthly to discuss upcoming events, budget, marketing ideas, and any current needs within WOTM or the community. Committees are formed with the chair position to assist on projects, such as, fundraiser, golf, and special events and meet outside regular board meetings.
As 2016 is coming to a close, I want to thank all our board members, board of directors, members, sponsors, and the community for a successful year. December of 2015, Women of Today's Manufacturing accepted a challenge through the Community Foundation of Illinois to raise $1,000 through our 50/50 raffles -- we are proud to announce that thanks to all who helped, we not only met but exceeded that goal!
